There are rare occasions when we know instinctively that the venture being embarking upon is the right course. There is no feeling of ambivalence or any misgivings that the project is needed and necessary. Forming a group of American Muslim physicians of Indian origin or AMPI is that occasion. Time and experience has taught us that a decentralized approach works best in helping the indigent who are most in need in a particular geographic area. Familiarity with local conditions is essential designing programs optimal for local needs. Additionally the persons undertaking this effort have to be aware the pitfalls, and should have the contacts to create a network. Muslims in India have unique medical needs that are dictated by local demography, culture and politics. The recently published Sachar report provides empiric data that Indian Muslims have rapidly fallen behind the rest of the country economically, educationally and in access to health care. The insight into local needs of Muslim Indians by Muslims of Indian origin will allow AMPI to plan and implement specific programs to help specific needs. Muslim American physicians of Indian origin are best suited to serve the need of their Indian clients; the true sons and daughters of the soil struggling against significant challenges and heavy odds. This is why we are delighted to announce the formation of the American Muslim Physicians of Indian origin or AMPI. In spite its name the group is inclusive and welcomes the participation of anyone with goodwill. We would welcome members of ancillary disciplines like dentistry, nursing, podiatry, optometry and others. The recipients of their programs will include all Indians irrespective of faith, tradition, class or gender. Some of the objectives of the organization are as follows | In India | Organize conferences and CME activities in India. Provide assistance for pre-medical courses for potential physicians. Establish charitable hospitals, dispensaries, clinics, provide professional and financial assistance for promotion for health and nutrition, to organize training camps and health campaigns. To establish ties with medical and health organizations in India. The group will collaborate with and strengthen projects that already in place in India. Promote Indian Muslim medical heritage, culture and ethics.

We are inviting you on behalf of AMPI to join this organization. The greatest strength of any organization is its membership. We know Muslims of Indian origin have the talent, knowledge base, diversity of expertise and richness of experience to make AMPI an excellent organization. Above all, they have the idealism from their Islamic faith and their personal background which will make AMPI a group which others will strive to emulate.
Currently there are over 3000 Muslim Physicians of Indian origin. Please join as well as help to spread the word about AMPI to your colleagues. With your help, we can have a large membership and make AMPI successful.
Make AMPI your own group. If we work together the possibilities are endless and the potential infinite. Our goal is to keep this group transparent, inclusive, progressive, and compassionate and an ideal other groups would strive to attain.
I am confident, Insha Allah, that AMPI will be greatly successful.
